Driving better decisions with Data Intelligence on Cloud leveraging Snowflake & AWS

We've strategically harnessed Snowflake's cloud-based data warehousing prowess to create an Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) within AWS Data Lake, forging a single source of truth for comprehensive data management and analytics capabilities.

Background

In the Fiber industry, service providers face challenges in effectively managing and analyzing data due to the intricate nature of their operations. The vast amounts of data related to network infrastructure, customer interactions, and service delivery make data storage, processing, and insight generation challenging.

Additionally, developing robust analytics capabilities to derive meaningful insights from the collected data is crucial for optimizing network performance, predicting maintenance needs, and enhancing overall service delivery. Moreover, as the demand for high-speed and reliable Fiber services grows, adapting to evolving technologies and industry standards becomes a continuous challenge in maintaining efficient data management and analytics capabilities.

Given these challenges, how should Fiber service providers manage their data efficiently so they can unleash their full potential?

Client Situation

Our client is a UK-based network provider, providing gigabit-capable FTTP broadband services nationwide. Their focus involves building and operating Full-Fiber networks in diverse cities across the country predicted to connect 8 million people by 2025.

To enhance efficiency and agility in network planning, tracking, and end-to-end order management, the company had embarked on a mission to organize and leverage its data, processing over 2 terabytes of data every day. Acknowledging the potential for growth and improvement, the client scouted for a strategic solution to further empower their data infrastructure.

Pivoting from an earlier idea to build a Data Lake, the company decided to onboard a strategic partner known for designing and delivering Enterprise Data Platforms (EDP) for the Communications industry.

Prodapt's EDP utilizes Snowflake's data virtualization and collaboration features to create a tailored and efficient data platform for Fiber service providers.

Diagnosis

The Fiber service provider generated reams of data across multiple disparate systems in network performance for Fiber build, IT systems, customer ticket management tools, CRM platform, and more. With no unified platform to store data and make it easily retrievable and analyzed, the company found itself unable to leverage its data. Managing all data on Microsoft Excel sheets, their teams had to laboriously track and make reconciliations, leading to a highly inefficient and time-consuming process.

This led to a search for a skilled technology expert, particularly a cloud data architect, to establish a robust enterprise data platform to eliminate manual data extraction and draw rich insights for a more personalized customer experience.

Solving It

Prodapt intervened with a solution entailing a standard Snowflake data warehouse on AWS to optimize operational costs. Snowflake offers cloud-native data warehousing capabilities, enabling it to store, process, and analyze extensive volumes of data, which was crucial for our client in managing their network performance and customer-related data.

Our Data Lake Integration solution combines the capabilities of Snowflake with AWS's Data Lake services, such as Amazon S3 and AWS Glue. This combined architecture facilitated seamless transformation and movement of data in the cloud environment to support analytics and decision-making.

AWS Glue for the automation of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes helped set up a robust and reliable framework for maintaining data consistency. This contributes to the overall integrity of the data pipeline, ensuring that the right data is processed, transformed, and loaded in a consistent and timely manner

The implementation of automated data ingestion helped get rid of manual effort. Utilizing AWS Data Lake, the master and transactional data from network and IT systems were ingested, stored, managed, and curated within a data model agnostic to vendor systems. The data convergence streamlined information consolidation, enabling effective data correlation, and generating a 360-degree view of critical assets. This enhances seamless collaboration among teams, allowing more efficient workflows and improved decision-making processes.

The unified structure provided by the EDP, powered by Snowflake's architecture, not only streamlined data management but also seamlessly managed growing volumes of data and can evolve with the organization's data needs. It also delivered tangible benefits in terms of improved analysis, consistency, decision-making, efficiency, scalability, reduced IT overhead, and enhanced collaboration across the organization.

Leveraging Snowflake's cloud-based data warehousing capabilities to establish an Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) within AWS Data Lake helped build efficiency across Fiber networks and improve customer experiences.

The initiative resulted in a reduction of more than 30% in the costs of storing, managing data, and pipeline management. It also delivered insights 2X faster and improved data quality by 40%.
