Unified inventory systems rendered an eagle’s eye view to drive sustainable business growth

How the consolidation of inventory systems empowered the service provider to eliminate inventory data silos and accelerate order fulfillment

Background

Inventory systems are the foundational support systems for service providers in the Connectedness industry. These systems support key service provisioning, planning, and network asset management. However, legacy inventory systems and complex network provisioning methodologies hamper time-to-market and on-time service delivery.

Due to growing mergers and acquisitions, service providers face challenges with multi-siloed inventories. Despite a growing demand for inventory integration, the lack of strategy and relevant skills hinder most service providers from attempting it.

As converged inventory systems arise, how do service providers put the right building blocks to enhance their services?

Client Situation

A leading service provider operating across 23 states in the US was facing challenges with inventory system management and fulfillment of orders on time. The client had acquired four new companies, which resulted in fragmented backend applications, multiple sources of truth, and complex processes with high operating costs.

The situation prompted the client to look for a partner who could customize and implement a unified inventory platform.

Prodapt’s unified inventory solution streamlined order processing and accelerated complex network design and builds.

Diagnosis

The client’s fragmented end-to-end architecture led to many challenges in their order fulfillment chain. Due to multiple acquisitions and business ventures, they had built several siloed O/BSS infrastructures. Their traditional workflows required users to manage orders manually on separate systems.

In addition, due to the absence of a unified inventory, their product catalogs were scattered across various systems. It resulted in redundant processes, inaccurate customer records, and poor customer experience.

Solving It

With over 15 years of excellence in building O/BSS architectures for networks globally, Prodapt spearheaded the client’s need for inventory consolidation. We conducted the catalog rationalization, remodeled the workflow, and designed the dashboard. We provided a new, unified data model of all assets – physical, virtual, logical, and service.

We rationalized the products and IT systems which helped us aggregate 2600+ products across four companies and mapped them to their respective inventory tiles.

Through cross-functional discussions with their internal business units, we discovered, analyzed, and optimized their inventory processes and applications across the four newly acquired companies. We implemented a unified inventory platform using the TM Forum’s information framework (SID). It helped us build interfaces on the inventory system and integrate 200+ legacy applications in the ecosystem.

We built a unified dashboard providing an in-depth view of the order-to-activate journey. In addition, we automated the end-to-end service delivery workflow through business process modeling.

Post-implementation of our solution, the client witnessed a reduction of 27% in the processing time of orders from multiple acquired companies. They could also reduce order fallouts to <1%. In addition, the order processing time was reduced by 36%.
