Client Situation

Our client, a UK-based leader in communications services, faced these challenges.

With a steadily growing volume of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and applications, the client’s growth trajectory needed systems that help them keep pace with the increasing demand. The client’s goal was to enable seamless development and deployment of
end-to-end IoT solutions and accelerate the time-to-market, delivering improved customer service.

The client partnered with Prodapt to deploy a holistic and systematic approach to
end-to-end test automation.

Prodapt supported the customer to maintain its position as a Leader for 8 consecutive years in the Gartner® 2022 Magic Quadrant for Managed IoT Connectivity Services, Worldwide.

Diagnosis

The client’s manual testing approach prevented the rapid release of connected devices, application functions, and features supported by its IoT platform. It slowed down Quality Assurance (QA) teams and limited their ability to rapidly test evolving applications. In turn, it hampered the rollout of new IoT capabilities for different types of devices. The client had attempted to automate some components of its IoT testing cycle in a piecemeal manner, which hindered the desired results. The client faced the risk of lagging behind the competition.

We collaborated closely with the client to enable end-to-end testing of IoT applications to accelerate the rollout of IoT capabilities in a scalable manner.

Solving It

Prodapt delivered capabilities in test automation, software applications, networking, and devices to develop an innovative IoT Test Automation Framework (ITAF). The framework enabled all devices connected to the IoT platform (within a single user/product journey) to ‘talk’ to the connected devices. This automated validation spanned across IoT platforms, IT, network components, and, most critically, end-user IoT devices.

ITAF helped the client to transform their IoT testing capability and align with their broader business growth plans. The automated testing enabled new IoT product releases and service enhancements, with on-demand availability within the client organization.

We completed the automation ahead of schedule, within budget, and without compromising the integrity of the client’s existing services. This has created a seamless qualitative journey across the client’s QA and testing lifecycle.

By implementing our IoT automation framework, the client was able to accelerate IoT product release timelines, from 8 weeks to 1 week. They also accelerated new customer issue resolution by 66% and speed up time to revenue by 53%. In addition, we have enabled the growth from 50 million to 136 million IoT connections over a period of 7 years.
